Concept

Its my goal to demonstrate the characteristics of bamboo: its lightness and its strength. I am trying to do that in a playful manner, not dead-serious - but its importatnt to me that the people that will see my project get a feeling for the bamboo - what its like, what you can do with it, just like i did in the last couple of months.

When my course started out in octobre last year, i thought i would end up with a nice product ( since i´m studying industrial-design), but over the last couple of weeks i found out so many techniques and ways of handling it - traditional asian ones, but new ones, too. Since it would be impossible to combine all these in one product i thought i would rather design something without a function; my professor calls it an image product, some peers say its an installation - i don´t really know what it is: I just wanna see whats possible with bamboo.

Thats how i came up with the idea of fish- the dynamic movement of a fish´s fin reminded me of long bamboo poles, swinging in the wind. The fish, as i imagine it will have an abstract form - it´s not about building a perfect fish but more to try out new forms - however one should still recognize it.

Whats up with the backfish ?

- I liked that picture : a fish thats still to young for the market - that could be me ( although i´m not a girl), since i am still studying, developing my skills, developing my taste and views. The techniques that i am showing are new too, not yet ready for the market. Finally the net - that has caught the back-fish could be considered the World Wide Web, and if you want to - you can write your opinion, or maybe an idea that could help me out, back .
